Alcalde is a small community located in north central New Mexico. "Alcalde" literally means "mayor" in Spanish. It is a demographically and racially diverse community located in the beautiful Sangre de Cristo Mountains.

Alcalde Elementary is a pre-K-6 public school, located in the small community of Alcalde, New Mexico, north of Espanola. It has an enrollment of approximately 175 students. For 5 consecutive years the students of Alcalde Elementary have made AYP (Adequate Yearly Progress) and strive to continue this each year. We are proud of our students and the strengths of our staff in working hard and striving for the best. We are dedicated to empowering our students so they can accomplish their goals and be life-long learners.

The present Alcalde Elementary School was built in 2013 under the leadership of former Superintendent Arthur Blea and School Board President Floyd Archuleta. With the passing of the “GO-Bond” Alcalde was able to construct a handsome building with state-of-the-art technology.
